New Mobile Process On-line Analyser

PetroMetrix (Israel) is pleased to announce its new mobile on-line analyser BEACON 2000 VeriTest TM for feasibility tests of new oil refinery process applications. The system can be quickly installed and easily moved to other locations when required. It is designed to accommodate a large range of applications for a limited period of time.

The conventional way to test the feasibility of a new application is to grab a few samples over a period of time and to use a lab system to measure them, develop a calibration model and use a blind set of samples to validate the model. This method suffers from several major drawbacks: Firstly, the on-line condition of the sample is usually very different from the same sample in the lab. Properties like viscosity, temperature and pressure all change, and that affects the reliability of the analysis.

Another problem is that the exact constituent of the sample flowing through the pipe is not always exactly known, thus there is a chance that the analyzer sample conditioning system will not function as required. This is impossible to detect with the lab validation technique. Such problems surface only after installing and starting the online system, which leads to its failure.

The BEACON 2000 VeriTest TM system overcomes these drawbacks. It is composed of two subsystems, the sample panel and analyser that are connected via fiber optics cable. The analyzer is controlled by a PC. The sample panel is purely optical, hence it is intrinsically safe and does not require any extra protection. All the customer has to do is to connect a fast loop pipe through the process, and the sample system is hooked directly on the fast loop. Results may be reported in real time to the DCS. The calibration and test period can last one to three weeks, depending on the variability of the process. Although this technique is more complicated than measuring a set of samples in the lab, it is much more reliable and guarantees the implementation success. At the moment VeriTest TM system is available only in USA and Europe.
